What are my rights as a car owner who had a car stolen?

Postby darvell » Fri Oct 28, 2011 1:02 pm

My car was stolen almost 2 months ago and State Farm still hasn't paid the claim. They just keep telling me I have rental car benefits. I've never been in this situation before and I really don't know what my rights are or where to go from here.

Does anyone know where or how I go about looking up laws that pertain to this type of issue? My actual insurance policy does not explain.

Thanks!

All of your rights and responsibilities are in your contract. If you did not bargain for a clause requiring payment in a specific time frame, then you do not have such a clause.

Your actual insurance policy *does* explain. All your rights and responsibilities are outlined in your contact. There are no laws which dictate the terms of your contract, other than general contract law.

Perhaps your insurance agent will be willing to explain it in simpler terms if you give him or her a call.
