Hello Doug. How are you?
Okay, since you say you are sincerely searching, I will take your word for that and discuss this with you. The reason I rejected your question last night, is because I felt you were being obscene and vulgar, talking about God "knocking Mary" and so forth. Surely you can word things a little better than that, can you not? I will accept your questions gladly if you can do it without being off-color.
So he told you to come to me? Well, that's a surprise. But I'm glad you did.
Okay, you ask...."34Then said Mary unto the angel, How shall this be, seeing I know not a man? The Holy Ghost shall come upon thee
Is this not sex? she got pregant when whatever it is left and this person as you say did somthing to Mary, what did he do to her this person if it was not sex."
No, it was not sex. It was a supernatural act by the Holy Spirit to place the Messiah into Mary's womb. It was NOT by natural means, but by supernatural means. It is quite clear from Scripture that Mary was a virgin at the time that Jesus was born, and that her husband Joseph did not "know her" sexually until AFTER Christ was born.
Matthew 1:25- "And knew her not till she had brought forth her firstborn son: and he called his name JESUS."
Notice the word "till"....this implies that Mary remained a virgin UNTIL she gave birth to Christ, and then her husband "knew her" in a normal way for husbands and wives.
Also, you must understand the virgin birth was prophesied in Isaiah 7:14.........
"14 Therefore the Lord himself shall give you a sign; Behold, a virgin shall conceive, and bear a son, and shall call?d? his name Immanuel."
Obviously if this were a sexual encounter, then no "virgin" would have conceived at all, for she would have ceased to be a virgin at that time. No, this was a supernatural act of the Spirit of God.
Now as for the Spirit, as I told you last night, the Spirit has all the attributes of an intelligent and living being, and in fact, the things that are said of the Spirit can ONLY apply to a living Being.
He can be lied to....Acts 5:3-4
He is called "God"....Acts 5:3-4
He speaks....Acts 28:25-26; 2 Timothy 4:1
He teaches....John 14:26
He speaks what He hears.....John 16:13-14
He can be grieved.....Ephesians 4:30 Look these Scriptures up for yourself to verify what they say, Sir. Do ANY of these qualities sound to you like a non-living, impersonal force? For instance, can you "grieve" your car? Can a tree "speak"? Can you "lie" to your mailbox? Does your refrigerator "hear"? Can electricity "teach"?
I believe this is obvious, don't you?
So no, your saying that if it wasn't a force then it must have been sex, is not quite true. There was no "sex" when God created Adam from the dust of the ground, and Eve from his rib either. The same God that is able to create something from nothing, is full well able to cause Mary to bear the Messiah without being limited to natural human means.
Like I said, Doug....I am happy to take your questions and answer you Scripturally. But your question to me last night should have been worded much differently, and you did not come off as one searching for an answer, but rather, someone who simply wanted to be off-color. Since you say you are really searching, that is why I am happy to answer your question.
So, I hope this answer helps, and please feel free to ask for further clarification if you need to.
Have a nice day.
Derrick
