Laws Regarding Foreign Embassies

Postby Abhay » Sun Sep 25, 2016 11:33 am

Hi Peter

I'm just trying to get a basic grasp of common

legal points related to a foreign embassy's rights,

privileges, conventions and agreements in a

country, e. g. is it foreign soil? and what does

that imply?; under what circumstances can the

host country force enter an embassy?; are there

any UN conventions or agreements regarding this

or does it vary greatly?

Any comment would be much appreciated.

Thanks.

Laws Regarding Foreign Embassies

Postby squire » Thu Sep 29, 2016 12:56 am

Dear Frank,

the questions you are relating to are governed by the Vienna Convention on Diplomatic Relations for diplomatic missions and the Vienna Convention on Consular Relations for consular missions. Both are to be found under - http://treaties.un.org/Pages/ParticipationStatus.aspx - Chapter III, Numerals 3. and 6. respectively.
