How much is my Seth Thomas Clock worth?

Postby pete » Fri Jul 27, 2012 10:49 am

I found an old Seth Thomas clock in my attic. It is in pretty good shape with a few scratches and dents. It does not work by itself but if I were to move the minute hand to 12 it starts to make sounds like dong...dong...dong... and if I move the hand to 6 it makes a high pitched Ding...
It has a lion with a ring in its mouth on both sides.
On the back it says:
Made in US
Adamantine Clock
Patented September 7, 1880

I have the key for it to control the internal gears which work when I move the minute hand. It has the original pendulum but it does not move by itself.

If you know anything about clocks please tell me an estimated value and (if it is easy to do) how to make it work on its own.

These clocks are gorgeous!

Find you clock here (maybe):
http://clockhistory.com/sethThomas/products/adamantine/index.html (Directions on label)

One e-Bay listing at $450.00 for THIS clock. I also saw it as low as $20.00

Ask your question to one of these guys:

You may have to take it to a shop that can appraise this for you.
