How can I tell if tree (aborvitie) has been poisoned?

Postby chen12 » Mon Jun 11, 2012 5:56 am

We are in dispute with our neighbors and it's a tense relationship. Lately (and out of the blue) our trees which are right on the property line (there is no fence) show signs of dying. They are brown from the bottom 1/4 way up. Not all the trees, just 3 in a row. Am I right to be suspicious? Is there any way to tell?

It would be hard to tell. Have the arborvitea been planted recently or are they established. New Arborvitea are pretty finicky and can die unexpectedly. I think you are right to be suspicious.

The only way to tell will be to have an arborist take a coring from the failing tree and from a healthy one and then analyize the corings to see if there is something causing the problem (and what it is).
