Desensitized Penis - Suggestions Requested

Postby Ergyryad » Mon Dec 05, 2016 12:47 pm

Hello, I’ve searched through the questions answered already on penile desensitization and didn’t find one quite like my case.

I am a 23 year old male, and I’ve had what I can only explain as a lack of feeling throughout my penis.  I was circumcised at birth, which I am aware can/is a cause of a fairly large loss of feeling in the penis but I feel my loss is much further than simply that.

First off, my current state has been around for as long as I can possibly remember -- being 23 that isn’t very long of where a male usually becomes interested in sexual stimulation.  My main concern is my glans, as I’ve talked to dozens of open minded friends who are willing to share their sexual experiences -- even without hearing their stories of how stimulation of the glans is I knew something was quite not right.  The sensation I feel in the glans, even at the most top of my orgasm is at best a normal stroke along the arm, minus the tingling the hairs on the arm would give; simply put dull and nothing more than knowing something is at least touching/stroking.  The same goes for the shaft, but it is far more dull, I seem to be able to detect pressure past the surface skin as I would anywhere else on my body.  From there, the testicals seem to have normal sensation, or what I would consider normal, as well as prostate and anal stimulation.

Now the issue I’m having with this lack/no special sensation is that I can not reach orgasm orally, nor does it feel any different than described about above, the same would go for vaginal and anal sex w/ without the use of a condom and lubrication and use of toys, even gone as far as buying the  “Fleshlight“ toy with several sleeve type to see if I just need a certain kind of massage  (was not cheap - sadly no go).  In fact the only way I can possibly reach orgasm and ejaculate is by the fact that I’ve had to train myself to be intensely mental(imagining myself in something I find mentally arousing in a sexual manner, usually nothing to do with the masturbation/person I‘m with).  I seem to have erections regularly and fine but due to the lack of sensation it becomes very difficult to maintain it while with another since it’s difficult to trance out into a deep mental arousing state with another around.

At my age, it is growing further and further more aggravating, stressful and simply plain out depressing that I seem to be currently incapable of enjoying sexual sensation other than the feeling of ejaculation in the testicals.  The fact that I have everything here and functional for future procreation it tortures me to death not being able to enjoy it, or even at least appease my sexual need as a young adult.

I’ve not talked to the family doctor about it as I seem to know far more than he does on such the subject since my brother has questioned him about circumcision issues in the past, though I’ve been thinking about setting up an appointment with a urologist to try and get some solid answers and possible solutions, as I’ve read it might be permanent nerve damage due to malpractice during circumcision and currently the medical field is not capable of repairing such issues.  Though, I am currently a college student so a factor that is coming into play of why I have not went and seen a urologist is simply put -- money.  I was hoping for some helpful suggestions before I take the step to see a urologist as I’ve heard the costs can get fairly high which is going to be a tough option for me at this time, but I feel something needs to be done as I keep feeling emotionally worse and worse as the years pass over my “lack“.

Thank you very much for any answer/suggestions you could give

Apologies for the long post, but I felt the more provided the easier it would be on your part.

Desensitized Penis - Suggestions Requested

Bryan, I have been asked a very similar question by another young man recently and will attach my answer to him.  Each male is born with a given degree of penile sensitivity.  There really is no way to increase this baseline amount.  However, there are controllable factors that can affect this.  For example, the less often one ejaculates(either via masturbation, sexual intercourse, oral sex, wet dreams, etc.), the more acute the sensitivity will be.  One can by trial & error adjust their ejaculatory frequency to find a satisfactory happy medium for themselves.   In addition, there are sensory nerves in the penis that can be damaged & if this occurs, the sensitivity can be significantly diminished.  This does not usually occur with traditional methods of masturbation or sex.  The most often cause is in those men who try to enlarge their penis by various stretching exercises, the use of penile extenders, or the practice of "jelquing".  Because of this complication, I do not recommend such methods.  If nerve damage occurs, it generally reverses itself if no further insult occurs.  However, the recovery period may take a year or more.  Assuming you have not performed such practices, it is remotely possible that you do have another type of  neurologic deficit.  This may be able to be detected by have specialized testing of the penile nerves.  This is well beyond my expertise but studies such as penile latency and conduction studies may shed light on the condition.  If an abnormality is found, however, I am unaware of any specific treatment.  But again, this is not my expertise.

A few words about circumcision.  Although the resected portion of the foreskin has some sensation, adequate residual penile sensation is rarely a problem after  circumcision.  Permanent damage to the penile nerves of the glans and shaft after circumcision is an extremely rare occurrence that I, for one, have never seen in over 40 years of urologic practice.  Good luck.
